Congratulations! Seeing a positive result after your IVF cycle is a moment of joy, relief, and hope. But after the excitement settles, a common question follows:

👉 “What happens next?”

At Gold Medica IVF Services, our care doesn’t stop at a positive test—we support you throughout the crucial early stages of pregnancy. Here’s what you can expect after that wonderful “two pink lines.”

🩺 1. Beta hCG Blood Tests (Pregnancy Confirmation)

Even if your home test is positive, we confirm pregnancy with a quantitative beta hCG test:

  • First blood test: Done 9–14 days after embryo transfer
  • Second test: Done 2–3 days later to check if hCG levels are doubling (a good sign of a progressing pregnancy)

These tests are more accurate than home kits and give insight into how the pregnancy is developing.

🔍 2. Early Ultrasound Scan (Around Week 6)

Roughly 2 weeks after a confirmed hCG rise, you’ll come in for your first pregnancy ultrasound:

  • We check for gestational sac
  • Heartbeat may be visible around 6–7 weeks
  • We confirm number of embryos (singleton or twins)

This is an emotional and reassuring milestone for IVF patients.

💊 3. Continued Hormonal Support

Even after a positive result, your body might still need extra support, especially in the first trimester:

  • Progesterone supplements are often continued until 10–12 weeks
  • Estrogen or other medications may also be prescribed depending on your treatment plan

Don’t stop any medications without your fertility doctor’s guidance.

💚 4. Monitoring & Emotional Support

Every IVF pregnancy is precious, and we continue to monitor you closely:

  • Regular check-ups every 1–2 weeks in the first trimester
  • Counseling or support groups if you’re feeling anxious or emotionally overwhelmed

At Gold Medica, we know that IVF journeys are emotionally intense, and we’re here for your mental and physical well-being.

📤 5. Transition to Your OB/GYN

Once your pregnancy is stable—usually after 10 to 12 weeks—you’ll “graduate” from our IVF clinic and transition to your regular obstetrician for standard prenatal care.

We send over all medical records and stay in touch, especially if you have any special care needs.

📌 6. What to Watch For

Even with a positive test, stay alert for signs that need immediate attention:

  • Heavy bleeding or severe cramps
  • Severe nausea or vomiting
  • Dizziness or fainting

These can indicate complications like ectopic pregnancy or OHSS (Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome). Always report anything unusual.

🌼 You’re Pregnant—Now What?

While a positive IVF result is a huge step, the early weeks are delicate. Trust your body, stay calm, and lean on your medical team. The first trimester is a time for:

  • Hope
  • Monitoring
  • Gentle care
